Of all the great neighborhoods you can move to in Sarasota, Colonial Oaks is one of the most desirable in terms of character. Located in the Fruitville district east of I-75, Colonial Oaks lives up to its name with plenty of mature oak trees and a few homes built in the Spanish Colonial style. This leafy subdivision is great for families with young children, and it offers a nice mix of architectural styles along with very affordable homeowners association fees.
Colonial Oaks is blessed with a great Sarasota ambiance. The neighborhood looks great from any angle; although it is not gated, there is a main traffic entrance at the corner of Honore Avenue and Colonial Oaks Boulevard, where a county park is located. As you drive through the neighborhood, you can see pockets of oak tree forests, and some of them have ponds that lucky homeowners can see right from their backyards and covered lanais.
All 626 properties in this subdivision are single-family residences built on spacious lots; for example, one of the few home sites awaiting construction in late 2021 offered 7,500 square feet, and it was listed for $180K. The coziest two-bedroom houses measure at least 1,300 square feet of interior; these are older Florida ranch-style homes. You can find larger homes with up to four bedrooms and 2,200 square feet of living space in styles that range from Mediterranean to Spanish Colonial and even American Coastal.
The annual homeowners association fee is just $305, and it pays for the maintenance of the lush greenery, including trimming of the majestic oaks and pines that adorn the entire neighborhood. Colonial Oaks Park, which is maintained by the Sarasota Parks and Recreation division, offers basketball courts, a playground, an indoor gym, tennis courts, walking trails, and barbecue grilling spots.
Residents of Colonial Oaks enjoy living very close to suburban comforts such as the Fruitville District Library, Celery Fields Park, Home Depot, Publix, and the Sky Zone Trampoline Park. The beaches of Siesta Key are just 30 minutes away. Pricing as of December 2021 started at $470K for a remodeled Florida ranch with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
