Country Club Shores was developed in the 1960s as an amazing engineering project with boaters and anglers in mind. A total of 18 canals were dredged and 19 streets were built between them; the idea was to offer private docking space and piers to each homeowner. In essence, every street in Country Club Shores is a cul-de-sac that connects with Gulf of Mexico Drive; along with the mature tropical landscaping of the neighborhood, these dead-end streets and the canals between them maximize privacy.
Home buyers who prefer neighborhoods with real estate diversity will certainly like Country Club Shores. Initially, most properties in this neighborhood were Florida ranch-style houses, and a few of them are still around, but the majority have been turned into Mediterranean estates, Key West homes, Modernist mansions, and a few other styles. Even the Florida ranches that remain have been extensively remodeled.
Country Club Shores is the type of neighborhood where property values are always on the rise. In 2019, original Florida ranches can be found listed for less than $350K. A remodeled three-bedroom home with two bathrooms and 1,958 square feet of interior, complete with a covered swimming pool, private dock, seawall, boat lift, and a three-car garage, was listed for $949K. A four-bedroom waterfront Modernist mansion built in 1998 was listed for $3.49 million.
Of all Longboat Key neighborhoods, Country Club Shores enjoys one of the best locations. Being at the southern end of the island means having easy access to Golf, St. Armands Circle, Lido Key and Downtown Sarasota. The beach is just a short walk away, and you do not have to leave Longboat Key for shopping or dining because the Shoppes of Bay Isles, which feature a new Publix supermarket and CVS Pharmacy, are just five minutes away.
