As its name implies, The Lofts are upper-level residences located above the commercial spaces of Main Street, the heart of Lakewood Ranch. This means that residents of The Lofts can walk downstairs and enjoy the bistros, cafes, shops, boutiques, restaurants, pubs, and various other comforts of Main Street.

The residential concept of The Lofts on Main borrows from the urban planning ethos of American town squares prior to World War II. In recent years, this concept has been applied to Florida communities such as Abacoa in Jupiter and the new Mizner Park in Boca Raton. Part of the idea is to prevent urban sprawl; another goal is to provide an opportunity for residents to live as close to their place of work as possible.
