Driving through Red Rock, which is arranged into four sections, is like a lesson on the history of residential design in Sarasota. This is a neighborhood where you can still find small bungalows next to larger Cape Cod homes originally built by families who moved down here from New England in the 1920s. Many of the properties are Florida ranches built for veterans returning from World War II, but you can also find Mediterranean revival homes as well as Modernist with views of Roberts Bay.
Although there are quite a few million-dollar homes in Red Rock, it is not unusual to find a two-bedroom Cape Cod home built on a half-acre lot for less than $480K. Some of the houses qualify to enter the National Register of Historic Places, and for the most part you will find that homeowners really enjoy taking care of their properties. A couple of lots are available for construction as of late 2019; one measuring 10,650 square feet was listed for $450K.
The leafy streets and sidewalks of Red Rock are adorned with mature tree canopies, and the overall feeling is very peaceful. In this gorgeous neighborhood, children can safely ride their bikes to Red Rock Park, which offers a playground, green spaces, picnic spots, and small gazebos for barbecue parties. Just west of Camino Real and Hansen Street you will find a Best Buy plus a Barnes & Noble bookstore; a large Publix is just two blocks north on Bay Road. Driving to the beach at Siesta Key will take you about seven minutes.
