You can never go wrong when house hunting in the West of the Trail neighborhoods of Sarasota, but you may find that listings do not come on the market very often in some communities. Located just north of Siesta Drive on the way to the white sandy beaches of Siesta Key, Shoreland Woods is one of those neighborhoods where you have to move very quickly once a homeowner decides to sell.
Unlike other neighborhoods near Downtown Sarasota, Shoreland Woods does not exclusively attract seasonal residents; this is an established community where families like to make a homestead, and this explains why listings are scarce. Initial development of Shoreland Woods dates back to the 1950s, which means that you can still find a few Florida ranches; however, most of the properties here are spectacular mansions with a high degree of curb appeal.
Shoreland Woods evokes the ambiance of a stately neighborhood with lots of class. The greenbelt areas are adorned with mature trees, and the leafy sidewalks are covered with thick canopies. A small preserve west of Old Oak Drive separates the neighborhood from the Sarasota Bay, and few of the homes surround a small pond. In May 2019, the only listing at Shoreland Woods was a five-bedroom estate with four bathrooms built on 3,790 square feet of living space. This $1.69 million mansion is a perfect example of the design inspired by the Sarasota School of Architecture, and it is one of the nicest properties in the city.
Since this subdivision is located in the heart of Downtown Sarasota, many suburban comforts are within walking distance; from grocery stores to fashion boutiques and even surf shops, you do not have to travel far from home. The beach is close enough for a bike ride, and the Publix supermarket at Paradise Plaza is about five blocks away.
