In Italy, Sorrento is a somewhat hidden Naples coastal town where you can catch ferries to the island of Capri. In Sarasota County, Sorrento Shores is a waterfront community initially developed in the 1960s by home builders who wanted to recreate the ambiance of a seaside community on the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento Shores is part of Osprey, one of the most desirable places to live in Southwest Florida, and you are virtually guaranteed waterfront views when you acquire a property here.
Despite not being a gated community, Sorrento Shores in Osprey offers the kind of privacy and seclusion you would get in a private island resort; there are only two entrances from the Tamiami Trail, which means that you do not have to worry about too much vehicle traffic. Most drivers who go past these entrances assume that Blackburn Bay is on the other side of the trees, but there are 241 single family residences, a network of canals, and even a neighborhood marina. Whether it is the bay or a canal, homeowners are guaranteed waterfront spots; in fact, a canal lot complete with a private dock was listed here for $329K in January 2021, which would be perfect for building a custom home this year.
As you can imagine, most residents of Sorrento Shores are into boating or fishing. The well-kept community marina, which offers 11 slips, is a good spot for casting a line, although those who own homes right on the bay enjoy even better fishing spots. Boaters can enter the Intracoastal Waterway along Casey Key in minutes.
At Sorrento Shores, you can find everything from Old Florida cottages to imposing waterfront estates. Prices start around $627K for a three-bedroom home right on the bay. Million-dollar estates with private swimming pools, elaborate docking space, and the best views of the Casey Key barrier island tend to sell faster here when compared to other waterfront neighborhoods in the area.
The waterfront views, privacy, and the proximity to the beaches of Nokomis and Casey Key make this subdivision one of the most attractive in Sarasota County. All the suburban comforts of shopping, dining, and entertainment can be found up and down the Tamiami Trail, and you can drive south to downtown Venice in just 10 minutes.
